Danau Pauh, a natural lake with clear blue water and the majestic Mount Masurai as its backdrop, is well-known to the people of Jambi and surrounding areas. Its beauty attracts travelers and tourists who enjoy capturing scenic views. Danau Pauh is located administratively in Pulau Tengah Village, Jangkat District, Merangin Regency, Jambi Province. To reach the lake, visitors need to travel for about 3 hours from the capital of Merangin Regency, Bangko. If coming from Jambi City, the journey will take even longer, around 8 hours. Visitors can use both four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles to reach Danau Pauh, but public transportation to the site has not yet been developed. While most of the roads are well-paved, winding and extreme curves are often encountered.
The charm of Danau Pauh lies in its natural beauty. It is a volcanic lake formed millions of years ago by the activity of a volcano. The lake covers an area of 30 hectares with a depth of up to 20 meters. It is located at an altitude of approximately 1,200 meters above sea level, providing cool and fresh air typical of highland regions. The lake is surrounded by lush greenery that characterizes most of the area around it.
Various types of flora and fauna, which are part of the Kerinci Seblat National Park conservation forest, can be found in the area. The presence of these plants and animals adds to the natural and lasting impression and enhances the beauty of the lake. The water in Danau Pauh is crystal clear, but also cold. With the clarity of the water, visitors can even see the fish and plants living in the lake. At certain times, visitors can witness a breathtaking phenomenon of the reflection of Mount Masurai as if it were a mirror.
The air around the lake is cool and pollution-free. However, visitors are advised to bring jackets or warm clothing because of the cold temperature. Danau Pauh's charm is captivating, with its blue expanse of lake water resembling a vast ocean, green trees, and Mount Masurai creating a complete panorama that will satisfy visitors' eyes. Visitors can enjoy the scenery and explore every corner of the lake freely. For a different experience, visitors can also ride bamboo rafts, known as getek-getek, to the center of the lake. From there, they will see the majestic Mount Masurai in the distance.
After exploring the lake, visitors can also visit the nearby plantations where the locals make a living. Various plantations such as coffee, potatoes, chili, vegetables, cinnamon, and others can be found. In addition, vast rice fields provide a magnificent view for visitors.
Danau Pauh offers adequate facilities for visitors, including public toilets, garbage cans, spacious parking lots, restrooms, as well as several mosques and prayer rooms around the lake. Most of these facilities are well-maintained, providing comfort while enjoying the lake. Furthermore, access to Danau Pauh has been improved, with some roads widened and repaired. Smooth asphalt roads are an essential factor in attracting tourists to visit. Despite this, there is still no public transportation that can take visitors to the lake.
