Kerinci Mountain

About

Mount Kerinci (also spelled "Kerintji", and known as Mount Gadang, Merapi) is the highest mountain on the island of Sumatra and the highest volcano in Indonesia. Mount Kerinci is located on the border of Kerinci Regency, Jambi Province, and South Solok Regency, West Sumatra Province, in the Bukit Barisan Mountains near the west coast, with an altitude of 3,805 meters above sea level. The mountain also serves as a boundary between the Kerinci people and the Minangkabau ethnic group, surrounded by the dense forests of Kerinci Seblat National Park, which is the habitat of Sumatran tigers and Sumatran rhinoceroses. Mount Kerinci is a stratovolcano that is still active and last erupted in 2009. From the summit of Mount Kerinci, one can see a beautiful view of the cities of Jambi, Padang, and Bengkulu in the distance. Even the vast Indian Ocean can be seen clearly. Mount Kerinci has a crater with an area of 400 x 120 meters and contains green-colored water. To the east, there is Rawa Bento, the highest freshwater swamp in Sumatra. Behind it is Mount Tujuh, with an almost untouched crater.
